Raqim Foundation in collaboration with Afghan Education for a Better Tomorrow launched a Tele-Medicine pilot project in Kalakan, a village in Afghanistan. This system is satellite, internet based, and powered by solar panels. The first health care consultation was with a mental health patient who consulted with Dr. Nahid Aziz, AEBT Vice President and Associate Professor at the American School of Professional Psychology (ASPP) at Argosy University, in the USA. Dr. Aziz spoke directly with the patient about personal mental health issues. Currently, the pilot Tele-Medicine Clinic is linked with Afshar Hospital, located in Darulaman, in the outskirts of Kabul. Doctors from Afshar Hospital consult with Kalakan Clinic patients through satellite on a daily bases. The American Medical Overseas Relief - Afshar Hospital, is a non-profit organization that serves local poor people who have not had previous access to health care.
